Everything you need to know about CustomerID for QuickBooks.
General
CustomerID automatically assigns and displays a unique ID badge on every customer record and invoice inside QuickBooks Online. No more hunting through QB's hidden internal IDs buried in URLs.
CustomerID works with QuickBooks Online — Plus and Advanced plans. It does not work with QuickBooks Desktop.
CustomerID is a Chrome extension and requires Google Chrome. Support for other Chromium-based browsers (Edge, Brave) is on our roadmap.
Setup & Installation
Install the Chrome extension from the Chrome Web Store, enter your license key in the extension popup, and connect your QuickBooks account. Your customer IDs will populate automatically. The whole process takes about 2 minutes.
Yes. CustomerID works with your existing customers and invoices. It writes the ID to the Account Number field so it shows up in reports, search results, and on printed invoices.
Yes — this feature is coming soon. CustomerID will detect numbers already in customer names (e.g. "1042 - Acme Corp") and import them automatically so nothing gets lost and your existing numbering is preserved.
Features
Yes. You can use QB's internal IDs (e.g. 1, 2, 67) or set a custom starting number in the extension popup — for example, start all your customer IDs from 1000. The setting takes effect on the next sync.
Yes. The Customer ID badge appears on invoice pages and the ID is written into the invoice memo so it prints on the invoice itself.
Yes. The extension popup has a live search that lets you find any customer by their ID or name. Clicking a result navigates directly to that customer's page in QuickBooks.
Yes. The extension popup includes a CSV export that downloads all your customers with their IDs, contact details, addresses, balances, and more.
Billing & Cancellation
If you cancel your subscription, CustomerID will stop working and your ID badges will no longer appear. Customer IDs stored in QuickBooks will be removed from your records on the next sync after cancellation.
You can cancel anytime from your account page at customerid.app/account. No phone calls, no forms — just one click.
Not currently — each QuickBooks company requires its own license at $5/month. Multi-account plans for bookkeepers and accountants managing multiple clients are coming soon.
Security & Data
Yes. CustomerID only writes to the Account Number field and invoice memo. It never deletes, modifies, or reads any financial data like transactions, payments, or balances beyond what's needed to display the badge.
CustomerID stores your QB OAuth tokens securely to perform syncs on your behalf. Customer names and IDs are cached locally in your browser extension for fast search. No financial data is stored on our servers.
